Now that we've fine-tuned the progress bars, we're ready to give another go at getting the app up into the marketplace.
It's a pretty big file, 7.5 Mb. There are a lot of images in it, plus the database.
Let's make sure it runs ok with preferences cleared.
Uh, no. The level defaults to 99, which I had set up to indicate not found, which should never be the case.
Ok, I had put the clear settings in the core, when the level is being set in the shell. When I move it out, all is well. The defaults are correct.
Ok. Will, I guess it's time to start uploading images.
There should be at least two, as follows:
Screenshots:
320 x 480, 480 x 800,
480 x 854, 1280 x 800
24 bit PNG or JPEG (no alpha)
Full bleed, no border in art
You may upload screenshots in landscape orientation. The thumbnails will appear to be rotated, but the actual images and their orientations will be preserved.
Full bleed? I'll trust the eclipse snapshot on that. What is the size?
Ok, 480 by 800. I'll load them all five or 6.
Hmm...on the artist pictures, I noticed that they're off center, and the background should be white. I think it's a dialog type in mantifest, but maybe it should just be a regular one.
android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog"
Yeah, but it's nice to have the dialog. I'll fixed the centering, there was a margin in there. We'll go with that for now.
Oddly, now when I'm installing the app, the google keyboard pops up and goes away. Huh?
Ok, I have three images I think will show up ok; fragile, long and snow cranes.
I wonder if you delete the apk, do all the uploads go away with it?
Oh. Yup. Just version it from now on.
Ok, they need a 512 x 512 icon - this where the mac makes life so much easier. Double-click, and you're in preview, and just click on something like tools, resize and your done. Can Windows do that yet? After all these years?
Ok, they need a title - only 30 characters.
Here's mine:
JLPT5 Japanese Vocabulary Game
Ok, here's my description:
If you want to ramp up on fast on Japanese vocabulary, or if you are preparing for JLPT 5, then KanjiSoft's JLPT5 Japanese Vocabulary Game may be just what you're looking for. It's a multiple choice quiz-game containing nearly 700 words which are most likely to appear in JLPT 5.
There are a number of features which make this game more fun and interesting than a standard vocabulary drill:
1) There is a 10-second countdown timer for each question. This helps you focus and makes the time fly as you learn.
2) Professionally made Japanese and English audio is played after each question.
3) A Spaced Repetition System enhances long-term memory by automatically scheduling words for review. There's no need to input how well you did - the faster you answer, the longer between reviews!
4) Autoplay mode plays the words and their English translations continuously. This lets you learn vocabulary in a "hands-off" situation, e.g. while exercising, walking, driving, etc.
5) To make things more interesting, the game is broken up into levels of 10 words. If you get all 10 questions right, beautiful Japanese artwork is displayed and you advance to the next level.
6) The words are are arranged in increasing order of difficulty, based on frequency of use. You will learn the most important words first!
7) Browse mode lets you take quizzes as a review without affecting the SRS.
8) Japanese graphics and art give the game a look and feel designed to bring you closer to Japan.
9) A settings display lets you chose the range of words you want to review.
No more boring word-lists - we're in the mobile world now. Get a jump on your Japanese Vocabulary with JLPT5 Japanese Vocabulary Game!
Here's the promo text:
Ramp up fast for the JLPT 5! Have fun by playing this addictive quiz-game.
Well, that needs an icon. I'll take care of that later.
For some reason, it's not liking my screen shots. I have a bunch loaded, like 7, but it keeps saying
"There must be at least 2 uploaded screenshots."
Ok, when you click on the thumbnail, then the larger image, it shows a 404 page not found.
Ok, some google search says to logout. I guess I have no choice.
Back in, and all that text and images are gone. Luckily, I saved them here.
The first upload, and no more 404.
Ok. It's saved. Whew. Now, publish? It wants me to activate the apk.
A couple of checkboxes on the bottom and....
Published. More to come.
